Editing Services Overview

Manuscript Assessment

If you are not sure what your story needs, this is the best place to start.

A Manuscript Assessment is a big-picture editorial service designed to help you understand what is working, what is not and how to take your story to the next level.

Whether you are on your first draft or a more polished version, this assessment provides professional guidance before diving into detailed editing.

Developmental Edit

This in-depth edit focuses on the bones of your story… the things that make it work.

A Developmental Edit is all about elements like the structure, pacing, character, voice, flow and overall storytelling.

Your editor will work closely with you to identify what’s strong, what’s missing and what could be reshaped to better suit your target audience.

Line & Copy Editing

This is where your story starts to really shine.

Line and copy editing focuses on the finer details of your manuscript, ensuring your language is clear, consistent and polished, while still keeping your unique voice intact.

Your editor will go line by line, tightening your sentences, fixing grammar and punctuation and improving overall readability.

Proofreading

This is your final tidy-up before your book goes out into the world.

Proofreading is the last step in the editing process and focuses purely on surface-level errors.

It’s designed to catch those sneaky typos, punctuation mistakes and inconsistencies that might have been missed in earlier rounds of editing.

Kat is a Tasmanian freelance editor, author and illustrator, and the owner of Pesky Plover Studio.

Her creative life started in a small country town, surrounded by books, animals, magic, and a handful of teachers who made space for storytelling.
She spent her childhood filling notebooks with sentences and scribbles and daydreaming about making books. She hasn't really stopped.

She has a Bachelor of Communications (Children's Literature) from Charles Sturt University as well as a Graduate Certificate in Writing and Literature (Editing) from Deakin University.
Having worked in education for the past decade, lifelong learning is something she is very passionate about, whether that's through a uni course or a workshop on great storytelling.

In her spare time she's a mum to a whirlwind little boy, a late-start ballerina, a slow runner, and a sweet treat aficionado.

She can't wait to be a part of your story.
