Frequently Asked Questions

YOUR QUESTIONS - ANSWERED

I registered for a masterclass and haven't received the Storyboard Template

First of all, I would never ghost you like that.

The storyboard template is automatically sent to everyone who attended the class. It lands in your inbox within 1-3 hours of the session finishing.

If you can’t see it, please:

• Check your junk or spam folder
• Search your inbox for my name
• Add me as a safe sender so I don’t get banished to the email black hole again

If it’s still nowhere to be found after that, then absolutely reach out and we’ll sort it.

But 99% of the time… it’s hiding in spam wearing a little disguise.

How much does it cost to publish a book?

Ahhh, the “how long is a piece of string?” question.

Short answer: as much or as little as you’re comfortable investing.

Technically, you could publish a book for almost nothing. Upload a file, DIY everything, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Is that what I recommend? No.

Do people do it? Yes.

Most Little Ivory Haus Authors tend to budget somewhere between $1,000 and $10,000 for their project. The final number depends on things like illustration, editing, design, printing choices and how polished you want your finished book to be.

The good news though? There are plenty of ways to structure your project to suit your budget.

You can scale up, scale down, prioritise what matters most and build from there.

Publishing isn’t one-size-fits-all.

It’s more like a menu. You choose what you order.

And no, you don’t have to order the lobster on day one.

Do I need to hire an Illustrator?

Unless you’re an artist, ideally... yes!
A professional illustrator helps bring your vision to life. A picture book tells the story in pictures as much as it does with words.
But the good news is that there are plenty of options to suit, no matter what your budget is.

And if your next question is "Should I use AI to illustrate my book"... my answer is a firm "No!"

Apart from the consistency, moral and copyright dilemma, using AI (for any part of your book) can greatly limit your book's opportunities.

So why not set your book up for success from the beginning!

How long does it take to publish a book?

Another classic.

The honest answer? It depends. (I know. Riveting.)

Timelines vary based on illustration time, editing rounds, how decisive you are and what printing pathway you choose.

Some illustrators are lightning fast. Others are more “creative breeze on a Sunday afternoon”.

That said, if you’re working to a deadline, it is absolutely possible to publish in under 60 days. Plenty of our Little Ivory Haus Authors do exactly that.

The key is clarity, quick decisions and not disappearing into a perfection spiral for three weeks over a single word on page seven.

If you want it done “one day”, that’s vague.

If you want it done by a specific date, that’s achievable.

We love a timeline with a pulse.

Can you publish my book for me?

I could.

But I’d much rather teach you how to do it yourself.

Publishing is not a one-time event. It’s a skill. And once you learn it, you’ll never unlearn it.

In fact, publishing books is slightly addictive.

One becomes two. Two becomes a series. Suddenly you’re pricing merch and discussing foil finishes.

My whole philosophy is empowerment.

I don’t want to take control of your publishing journey. I want to hand you the map, the compass and the confidence so you can run it yourself.

That said, if you’d prefer a more personalised or hands-on approach to writing, publishing or marketing your books, I do offer 1:1 services.

You can explore those HERE

Because sometimes you want the driving lesson.
And sometimes you want someone in the passenger seat saying “turn left here.”

Can I "pick your brain"?

You absolutely can.

My brain, however, now comes with a booking link.

Over the years I’ve learned that “quick little questions” often turn into 47-minute strategy sessions (which I love, but my calendar does not).

If you’d like to pick my brain properly, with focus and intention and actual outcomes, my 1:1 sessions are exactly for that.

You can book one HERE

Bring your questions. Bring your manuscript. Heck! Even bring your wildest dreams and we'll unpack them too!

Can I send you my manuscript for feedback?

I love that you’ve written one. Truly. That already puts you ahead of most people.

However, I don’t read unsolicited manuscripts via email or DM. If I did, I would never sleep again and my children would forget what I look like.

If you’re looking for professional feedback, editing or structured guidance, that’s something I offer through my 1:1 services.

That way your manuscript gets the time, care and proper attention it deserves.

You can book in for a Manuscript Assessment HERE

I've been offered a contract from a publisher but I'm not sure...

If this offer includes YOU paying the publisher any amount of money, I recommend you run!

I'd like to book you to speak at my event/school/thing

Yes please.

Speaking is one of my favourite ways to connect with humans in real life.

If you’d like me to come and chat about writing, self-publishing, creativity, building confidence or the wild world of children’s books, I’d love to hear more.

Send me the details - date, location, audience size, what you’re hoping for and I’ll get back to you with availability and a quote.

Please note that guest appearances start at $370 + GST.

I'm in the Little Ivory Haus Community and I'd like to ask you a question

I’d love to help! I'm always here to support my #LittleIvoryHausAuthor legends

The best (and fastest) way to get a response from me is to pop your question inside our private online community. That’s where I look first, and chances are if you’re wondering it, someone else is too.

If you don’t hear back from me, feel free to tag me so it bumps to the top.

If your question is about billing or something you’d rather not post publicly, you’re always welcome to email me instead.

I've got you!

I would like to stock your book/s in my store, can you please send your wholesale prices?

Sure thing!

I purchased a program but didn’t receive my login details

First of all, thank you for joining the best author community going 'round. You absolute legend 💛

You should receive a confirmation email, receipt and login details within 5 minutes of purchase.

If you haven’t received anything, please:

• Check your junk or spam folder
• Search your inbox for my name
• Make sure you entered your email address correctly at checkout

It’s more common than you’d think for a tiny typo to sneak in. One missing letter and your login details are off living their best life somewhere else.

If 20 minutes have passed and there’s still nothing (and it’s not hiding in junk), please contact me and let me know.

Important note: if you’ve accidentally unsubscribed or blocked my email address in the past, you won’t receive my replies.

If you suspect that might be the case, try emailing me from an alternative address so we can get you sorted quickly.

We’ll fix it. But step one is always checking the spelling gremlins.

I placed an order for a book and haven't received it yet

First of all, thank you for placing an order 💛

Orders are packed and fulfilled within 4 business days of being received. Once your parcel has been dispatched, you’ll receive an email from Australia Post with your tracking details.

Standard shipping usually takes 2–6 business days after posting.
Express shipping usually takes 1–4 business days after posting.

Just a gentle reminder that express shipping means faster delivery once it’s posted. It does not mean express processing.

(I’m fast, but I’m not teleportation-fast!)

Tracking emails can sometimes sneak into your junk or spam folder, so please check there before reaching out.

If your tracking looks unusual or delayed, feel free to get in touch and I’ll happily help you investigate.
